Microsoft Windows Server Embedded Operating System PolicyProduct Bulletin 173 - Microsoft Embedded Operating System Policy and Up.

The Microsoft Embedded Operating System

The Microsoft Windows Server operating system that AVST ships with CX-E/S software and AVST certified hardware, is covered by the Microsoft embedded operating system license. The AVST CX-E/S software (CallXpress software in the past), the Microsoft Windows Server embedded operating system, and the AVST certified hardware, constitute the “embedded system”. The Microsoft Windows Server embedded operating system is only licensed to run on the embedded system, as defined above.

PRODUCT BULLETIN

Bulletin: #173

Date: May 15, 2014

The following key aspects are relevant to understanding the terms of the license. Also see MICROSOFT SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS shipped with the AVST embedded system for additional details.

 The Microsoft Windows Server embedded operating system is functionally equivalent to the commercial standard version of such operating system. For example: Windows Server 2008 R2 embedded operating system shipped by AVST is the functional equivalent of Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition.

 The only business application licensed to run on the Microsoft embedded operating system shipping from AVST is the AVST CallXpress and CX-E/S, or one of its components. Customers may not run any other software on the Microsoft embedded operating system shipped by AVST, with the exception of administration and maintenance tools as outlined in the MICROSOFT SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS shipped with the AVST embedded system.

 The Microsoft Windows Server embedded operating system is only licensed to run as part of the embedded system, and as a result, can only run on the hardware platform shipped from AVST as part of the embedded system. Should the hardware platform shipped by AVST fail, the Microsoft Windows Server embedded operating system license may be transferred to a replacement platform shipped by AVST.

 The CallXpress and CX-E/S applications running on the Microsoft embedded operating system are licensed for an unlimited number of client access licenses (CALs).

Customers running CallXpress and CX-E/S on commercial versions of the Microsoft Windows Server operating system may be required to purchase server CALs per the Microsoft licensing agreement. Depending on the licensing model of choice, customers may have to purchase user CALs for each subscriber in the system, or device CALs for each device the subscribers use to access the CX-E system. Customers planning to run CallXpress and CX-E/S on commercial versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system should review the Microsoft license terms for the version they are planning on using to determine the license requirements, CALs included. PRODUCT BULLETIN #173
